Satisfactory Academic Progress Statement
Federal regulations require that students applying for funding through the Title IV Student Aid Programs must meet and maintain minimum academic requirements in addition to establishing financial need. Each school of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport has established and administers policies on the satisfactory academic progress of its students. These policies include a delineation of the minimum grades which must be achieved to meet the criteria for satisfactory academic progress, a full description of the application of these polices and in regard to the various categories of students, a specific definition of the effects of course incompletes, withdrawals, and repetitions on satisfactory academic progress, and an explanation of the appeal process for those students who have been determined as not making satisfactory progress.
The Office of Student Financial Aid uses the same SAP policy that has been established by the academic departments for each school. Students that fail to meet the SAP requirements will be informed by the appropriate officials of their individual schools. The Office of Student Financial Aid will notify a student of his or her ineligibility to receive financial aid. A student that is ineligible for financial aid because of failure to meet SAP requirements may appeal any of the requirements by petitioning the Office of Student Financial Aid. A collective decision is made by the professional staff of the Student Financial Aid Office. All decisions are final.
For a full description of each school’s policy consult the appropriate section of the current LSUHSC-Shreveport Catalog/Student Handbook. The following statements summarize the Satisfactory Academic Progress policies for each category of students and the impact on their federal student aid eligibility.
