LSUHSC-S GREEN OBJECTIVES

  • Write a Institutional Green Policy and determine measurable goals
  • Assist Departments in writing their own area-specific policies
  • Solicit suggestions and feedback from our population on how to accomplish our institutional and departmental goals

RECYCLE PAPER PROGRAM

The data in the chart below was totaled from our 38 Recycle Bin Locations across the LSUHSC-S campus! Click here to see locations.

To request a white paper recycling bin for your area, please contact Angela Howard in Environmental Services at ahowa1@lsuhsc.edu or extension 56337.

CDDS – Confidential Document Destruction Services, Inc – our current confidential shredding contractor has offered a white paper recycling program for our campus.  Beginning March 11, 2010, they started a pilot program by installing six white paper recycling bins in designated areas throughout the campus.  As they perfect the process of servicing these bins, more locations will be added.  White paper is defined as copy and printer paper.  They hope to expand the program in the future to include mixed paper such as newspaper, magazines, sales papers and catalogs but at this time only white paper is being collected for recycling.  This program will help our campus in three ways:

  1. Recycling helps reduce the number of trees cut for paper and is environmentally prudent.
  2. Removing paper from the institution’s waste stream reduces the amount of waste that we have to pay to be removed and reduces the amount of waste introduced into the Shreveport landfill.
  3. CDDS has informed us that we have the potential to realize revenue from this program once operational costs are recovered.
