Benefits

Fellow salaries are adjusted annually to remain at or above the average for the southern region of the United States. In addition the fringe benefits are among the best in the nation.

Vacation
4 weeks per year (20 working days)

Malpractice Insurance
Liability coverage is provided free of charge by the State of Louisiana or the Department of Veterans Affairs for all duties performed in the context of the training program.

Meals
For $20.00 per month (through payroll deduction) house officers have unlimited access to cafeteria meals daily. Free on-call meals are available at the VAMC.

On Call Rooms
On call rooms are provided for all fellows at the University Hospital and at the VAMC.

Sick Leave
Fellows are allowed up to 10 week days of sick leave per year.

Parking
Free parking for fellows is available in close proximity to both the University Hospital and Overton Brooks VAMC.

Medical Benefits
Fellows and their immediate families are eligible for all university group insurance programs including health/major medical insurance, disability, and life insurance. Prescription medications are provided free of charge to the fellows and to their families.

“In-House” Moonlighting
Opportunities are available for the fellows who are progressing satisfactorily in training and are meeting the conference attendance and administrative requirements of the program.

Beepers/Clothing
White coats, scrub suits, and beepers are provided free of charge.

Additional Benefits
A fully equipped exercise/weight room is located in the School of Medicine and is available for use by residents and students. Residents pay a $20.00 refundable deposit and a $10.00 per month use of these facilities.
